Curriculum Vitae Dr. Pieter Mulder: FF Plus MP

Dr Pieter Mulder has been the leader of the Freedom Front Plus for fifteen years and was also involved in the constitutional negotiations between 1993 and 1996.

He studied at the former Potchefstroom University for CHE (now the North-West University), where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, a Master’s degree in Communication Studies and a Doctor of Philosophy at age 26.

He also completed postdoctoral studies in the United States at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

He was a lecturer, Professor and Head of the Department of Communication Studies at the former Potchefstroom University for CHE for fourteen years before he was elected to parliament. He was re-elected with every election since then and has been a member of parliament for twenty-nine consecutive years now.

From 1993 to 1996, he was part of the team of constitutional negotiators at Codesa and later on he was a member of the Constitutional Assembly. During this time, he was also a member of a multiparty group that visited various countries so as to study their constitutions.

In 2009, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries – he was one of the very few members of parliament that was appointed in such a position despite the fact that he was not an ANC member.

He is a founding member of the Freedom Front political party and filled the position of the party’s National Chairperson from 1994 to 2001. In April 2001, he was elected as the leader of the Freedom Front.

In 2010 in Rome, he was elected to the presidency of the international organisation UNPO (Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation), with the support of various African delegates. This organisation focuses on the protection of minorities and self-determination across the world.

In 2008, he publishes a book entitled “Kan Afrikaners toyi-toyi?” In his book, he offers a behind-the-scenes look at events and interpersonal relationships in parliament and the South African political milieu.

He likes to read and is interested in history and astronomy.
